The Gaze and Me, 2023
The history of body image is complex. Since the late 19th century, mirrors have fueled body dysmorphia, especially in women, reinforced by retail and beauty industries for profit. This manipulation perpetuates patriarchal ideals and exploits women by framing them as sexual objects.
In this series, I mimic the male gaze in media, exploring the duality of objectification both in the mirror's reflection and the model’s empowerment. By replicating this gaze, the work examines sexuality’s ties to the female form, shaped by patriarchal notions of intimacy and femininity.
So, where is the line between a sexual image and one simply depicting the female body?
